Adding a Video to Your Email

A video can be added to any iRealty email as a clickable thumbnail, but the video itself doesn't play inside the email. Instead, iRealty links out to where the video is hosted, and it opens in the recipient's browser when they click.

Why Videos Link Outside of the Email

Email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and so on) don't support playable video embedded directly in the email body. This is a limitation of email technology generally, not something specific to iRealty. To work around this, the Email Builder inserts a thumbnail image with a play-button overlay. When a recipient clicks it, the video opens in their web browser rather than playing inline.

This means:

  • The video plays on the video platform's own page (e.g. YouTube), not inside the recipient's inbox.
  • Recipients need an internet connection and a browser to view it — as they would for any video link.
  • The thumbnail is what recipients see at a glance, so a clear, relevant thumbnail helps encourage clicks.

Supported Video Platforms

You can link to a video hosted on:

  • YouTube
    Please keep in mind Shorts will not work
  • Vimeo

Adding a Video to a Section

A video is added inside a Linked Image/Video section of your email:

  1. Add the Linked Image/Video section into your email by clicking Image on the left side of the email builder and dragging it into the email.
  2. Click on the edit button of the section you'd like to add the video to.
  3. Paste the public video URL (YouTube or Vimeo link) into the Video URL section, toggle on the play button if required and click save.
  4. iRealty generates a thumbnail with a play-button overlay automatically.

Troubleshooting

Symptom: Recipients report the video won't play or the link doesn't work.

Cause: The video isn't set to public. Private YouTube videos, password-protected Vimeo links, and video files behind a login won't work for recipients — they simply won't be able to access the content.

Fix: Use a video that's set to public or unlisted on YouTube (unlisted keeps it off search and your channel page, but still lets anyone with the link watch it), or make sure Vimeo/direct file links don't require a login.
